Happy Nurses Week

Isn't this soooo cute! Woofy Nurse sends you greetings. She is saying, "Happy Nurses Week." Of course, it sounds more like, "bark-bark." I wonder how her hospital is celebrating Nurses Week. Here, at the Greatest Hospital In The World, nurses are being treated like, well, nurses. We are receiving cheap trinkets in addition to being served fine cafeteria cuisine. As I recall, the physicians were served steak and lobster for National Doctor's Day. We also can buy tickets for the chance to win the opportunity to throw a pie in our boss' face. The money raised will go to buy equipment for the hospital's forensic nurse. It's sad that nurses have to raise money so another nurse can do her job. But, that's nursing.

Enjoy your week. I hope my boss likes pie.

As I watch our local hospitals build and build, adding new labs and diagnostics, etc., I wonder... why don't we spend more money on meaningful things (instead of the cheap trinkets, N.R.- I love your blog). My institution is an East Coast inner city bastion, and it is the largest employer in the state. Hey, Bosses! Spend some money on civility/ respect/ dignity/ patient oriented training for your support staff. Spend some money on low cost but high comfort improvements like well appointed waiting rooms - and then reference your civility training when the support staff come in to "take a nap". It might go a long way in getting the "patient volume" you so desperately want. Or, is it just the truth that patients are a necessary evil to support all the NIH research dollars you get?

Happy Nurses Day! I can't remember how many times I missed the little tea given at the hospital where I used to work because I was just to busy to go. Interestingly enough all the administrators and our PCT's had a grand time LOL and so it goes.... Wait until you see the great retirement package your given for all your hard work LOL I hope you have a wonderful week. Happy nurses week to all of the wonderful and spirited nurses who read this blog.

I'm glad to hear that your hospital is actually RECOGNIZING nurse's week/day! Mine chose not to. I guess were just not important to the function of the hospital. Congratulations to all of you who are actually worthy!

I got a "thank a nurse" message on my paystub from the VA, which, incidentally, is the largest employer of nurses in the US.

Maybe I'll get a cheap "made in China" umbrella like everyone else did last year. So far, no dice.

All we're gonna get this week is an OIG inspection, and I hope it's tomorrow, since that's my day off!

That would be a great present for my first nurses' day!

Our employer prefers to wait until next week and celebrate "Health Care Workers Week". Everyone that works for the hospital, clinics, home health, etc will get an umbrella. Exciting, huh? Especially since we at home health and hospice got an umbrella for Christmas with a drug company logo on it. Love the doggie nurse. Happy Nurses Week to all!
